Library Fines and Holds
Each library on campus has separate overdue fine and replacement charge policies. The best way to avoid library fines is to return books on or before their due date and time.
You may pay fines online, in person, or by phone:
Pay fines online through your Library account (requires a valid NetID):
NOTE: Online payments do not take effect immediately. Payments will be applied to your library account and student record holds will be lifted the following business day. To be sure your payment has been processed, check your email for a confirmation. During business hours (8am to Noon & 1pm to 4pm Monday-Friday), you may call the Circulation Office at 608-263-7360 to have your hold removed immediately following payment.
In Person: Fines are paid at the Circulation Office, Room 170, Memorial Library. (Note: Fines incurred from the State Historical Society Library must be paid there.) The Circulation Office is open from 8:00 am to Noon & 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday-Friday. Fines can be paid with Visa, MasterCard, or cash.
By Phone: Please call the Circulation Office at 608-263-7360 between 8:00 am to Noon & 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (CDST) Monday-Friday.
To appeal a Fine, use the Appeal of Library Charges form. Overdue materials can result in an account hold being placed on your record.
Charges for lost or mutilated items cannot be appealed. Lost items remain the property of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and must be returned if eventually found.
