Laptop Checkout during COVID-19

The Libraries and the InfoLab program have updated the equipment checkout program to allow for laptops to be used by students, faculty, and staff for longer periods of time, in support of remote instruction.

Laptops are available for checkout at the State Street entrance of Memorial Library, on the south side of the building across from the University Bookstore. The doors are locked, but as you approach, a security guard will check your Wiscard and let you in the library to checkout a laptop.

Loan period

Laptops checked out will be due August 14, although extensions can be requested if the laptop is needed to support academic studies. Email technologycirculation@library.wisc.edu to request an extension.

Are other types of equipment (cameras, audio recorders, etc) available for check out? expand_more

At this time we are only able to check out laptops. We hope to start offering other equipment as campus reopens buildings.

How do I return equipment to the library? expand_more

When returning equipment, please return it at Memorial Library 1-5 pm on weekdays. Please do not return equipment (laptops, cameras, headphones, etc.) via the book returns.

Can I install software on the laptop? expand_more

Yes, you will have full rights to make changes to the laptops, including installing software.

What happens to the personal information on the hard drive when I return the laptop? expand_more

Your personal information is removed from the laptop. All laptop hard drives are completely wiped and reimaged before being returned to the loaner pool.

What are you doing about COVID-19 protection with the equipment? expand_more

All laptops are quarantined for at least 3 days when they are returned.
