Drowning in Boxes!

February 16th, 2017 by

If you have been in the library recently, you may have noticed the growing piles of boxes slowly taking over the copier room and the stacks. After closing in December, we physically roped off the stacks in the library and removed the ability to request items from the library in the online catalog. Once the collection was no longer active, project teams from our storage facility in Verona began working on processing the collection and moving items to their new locations.  Boxes can be packed up a lot faster than they can be moved out of the space, so we will be seeing these piles for a while longer.

Most books in the Chemistry Library collection will be making their way to Steenbock Library shelves, and the rest will end up in our Verona Storage Facility or in our on-campus Science Storage space in the Steenbock Library basement. Items in storage will still be available to check-out – they just have to be requested in the catalog first. For now, however, items moving from the Chemistry Library will show up in the catalog as being housed in the “Temporary Relocating Library”.  This just means the items are moving and currently unavailable. If you need one of these books, you will have to request another copy either from UW-System or from Interlibrary Loan.  Additional information on these items in-transit can be found here.
