How to find journals

Action Tips
Click on Find It.
Type the journal title in the Journal Title box.
  • If you know the exact title, type the title and leave exact match as the default in the drop-down menu.
  • If you don't know the exact title, type what you know and select contains from the drop-down menu.
  • If you only know the beginning of the title, type the first word(s) and select begins with from the drop-down menu.
  • For best results, type only the journal title and select a year from the YYYY drop-down menu.
Click on Find It.
Online version: Click on the appropriate full text online resource.
  • If the Find It menu indicates online full text, note Available from: (years of full-text coverage) information for each resource. Each resource may have full text coverage for different years of the journal you need.
  • Often, resources listed will not lead you directly to the online journal itself-instead, these resources include the full text of articles from the journal you need, among other journals.
  • If the Find It menu does not indicate online full text, look for print copies of the journal (see the next step).
Print version: Click Click the MadCat library catalog link in the Find It menu.
  • If the journal is available in print in one of the UW-Madison libraries, the link will open the MadCat record for the journal.
  • MadCat will indicate the libraries that own the journal you need and the dates of coverage at each library.
