Moving Citations from Ingenta Databases into RefWorks


In an Ingenta Database

  1. First time users: Register for a personal account. Subsequent times: Login using your Ingenta username and password.
  2. Do a search in either "electronic content" or "fax/ariel" [generally refers to journals Ingenta indexes but for which Ingenta is not a vendor of online content]
  3. Click in the box to the left of each desired citation.
  4. Click on Update marked list, at top of results list.
  5. Click on Manage My Ingenta at right of screen.
  6. Click on Marked List.
  7. (Optional) If needed, mark any records from prior searches that you do not want to export and click on Remove.
  8. Click on Export options under Tools at right of screen.
  9. Click on Plain text.
  10. Copy the records as displayed

    OR

    A) Click File and Save As.
    B) Identify your disk drive and filename plus the extension .txt (plain text) in the File Name Box.
    C) Select text file (*.txt) from the Save as type drop-down menu.
    D) Click on Save.

In RefWorks

  1. Login to your RefWorks database if you have not already done so.
  2. Click on References and Import at the top of the screen..
  3. Select Ingenta from the Import Filter/Data Source drop-down menu.
  4. Select Online Articles from the Database drop-down menu.
  5. Select the Import Data from the following Text and paste the copied records

    OR, if you've saved a file

    A) Select the Import Data from the following Text File box.
    B) Click on the Browse button to select the file name of your saved records.
  6. Click on Import.
  7. Your citation(s) will automatically be imported into the Last Imported Folder.

    You may now view your records and move them to the folder of your choice.
