GET TO SITES WITH MATERIAL IN THE "DEEP" OR "INVISIBLE" WEB, continued ...
As you recall, most publications by Women on the Net are only available in PDF (portable document format). A searcher already familiar with the title Women on the Net would be able to find the handbook, but searching for something more specific within the Handbook, such as its section "Cyberspace, Opening New Horizons for Women," by Lourdes Arizpe will not turn it up.
Similarly, searches for "women and net" or "women and Internet" will be way too general to be productive. Because it points to and describes useful material, a metasite both helps to unearth material that is below the radar screen of search engines AND selects items on broad topics that would be too difficult to identify from within a results set of thousands of hits. |
