Music Library Acquisition in Memory of Geraldine Laudati

Posted 04/27/2010

MADISON, Wis.- Thanks to the generous donations made in honor of Geraldine Laudati, the Mills Music Library has acquired the monumental two-volume work Bologna Q15: The Making and Remaking of a Musical Manuscript: Introductory Study and Facsimile Edition, by Margaret Bent.  Awarded the 2009 Claude V. Palisca Award, the American Musicological Society described this limited edition as "an exemplar of regal musicology, a "Bologna music" career-crowning achievement that will forever set a benchmark for facsimile editions.” Bologna Q15 will be on display in the Music Library through May 15th. Please stop by and take a look at this impressive work. Several recordings feature compositions found in this manuscript, including the Clerks’ Group “Sacred Music from Bologna Q15,” available online in Naxos Music Library and on CD15567 in the Mills Music Library.

Geraldine Laudati was director of the Mills Music Library from 1989–2006. She set high standards for  innovative projects and special collections. During Geri’s tenure, the Music Library launched one of the first streamed audio services in the country, helped pioneer the cataloging and digitization of sheet music and developed online resources such as the Wisconsin Folksong Collection. Her dedicated work in building the Music Library’s collections of scores, books and recordings greatly benefits students, faculty, and staff on and off campus.  The Music Library staff is most appreciative for the contributions from Geri’s many friends and colleagues that made it possible to add Bologna Q15 to the collection in her honor.
