If there's one message the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries want to send to students during finals week it's this: "You have enough to think about; you shouldn't have to worry about knowing whether or not the libraries are open."

"I have four finals or papers due finals week and I always go to the library," said UW-Madison senior Jen Terlinden, a Spanish and English major. "Since I've been at Wisconsin, the libraries have stayed open extra long, and it's nice to know I can go basically whenever I want."

Students studying in quiet study room 124 in Memorial Library. From May 11-18, the entire Memorial Library has extended hours from 8 a.m.-11:45 p.m. every day. From May 11-18 the west corridor and reading rooms in the west corridor will be open 24 hours. In addition, from May 11-14, the InfoLab will be open 24 hours.

College Library opened its doors on May 6 at 10 a.m., and the doors will remain open until 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 19--the last day of finals. The library has stayed open continuously during exam weeks for four years.

Carrie Kruse, director of College Library, said, "We receive a few comments each semester from students who wish we were open 24/7 all semester long instead of just five nights a week. While we haven't been able to meet that request during the semester, we have always maintained our commitment to being open continuously during the last few weeks when so many students need a place to do end-of semester work and studying."

Also useful to UW-Madison students during crunch time is, of course, caffeine--and the Open Book Cafe‚ in College Library is extending its hours to provide studiers with a much-needed boost.

The cafe‚ will extend its hours until 2 a.m. each day through May 16.

It will also offer free coffee, tea or hot chocolate after 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, through Thursday, May 17.

Comfort is also key.

Ebling Library, which focuses on health sciences and is located near University Hospital on the west side of campus, provides blankets and afghans for a quick nap or getting cozy.

At Wendt Library, a convenient place to study for residents of the Camp Randall and Vilas neighborhoods, there will be extended hours Friday, May 11, to Monday, May 14, before exam week, according to Deborah Helman, director of Wendt Library. The library is regularly open until 1 a.m. during exam week.
