Mysteries on the prowl in The Tiger's Child

MADISON, Wis. – John Neu's new Parallel Press thriller The Tiger's Child follows a police chief and a writer in a small town on the Wisconsin River as they attempt to solve the mysterious, violent deaths that occur after a child releases wild animals from a private zoo.
From the opening scene in The Tiger's Child, when a boy begins freeing the animals from Millard's Wild Animal Zoo in the fictional town of Fox Prairie, Wis., with no explanation, Neu begins building suspense. When the boy comes to the tiger cage, Neu writes, "He had never been in a cage with a tiger before. His heart was pounding so hard his chest hurt. He opened the door and stepped inside, and the tiger rose immediately and moved quickly in a crouch to him."
Neu received his master’s in library science from UW–Madison in 1959 and was hired as a bibliographer in 1963, a position he held until his retirement in 1999. While working for the libraries, Neu wrote habitually in early mornings for his own pleasure. The Tiger’s Child is not the first book Neu has written, but it is the first published.
The Parallel Press is an imprint of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries.
