Women's studies librarian receives ACRL achievement award
Posted 2/10/2004
MADISON, Wis. -- Phyllis Holman Weisbard, University of Wisconsin System women's studies librarian and distinguished academic librarian at UW-Madison, has won the Association of College and Research Libraries Women’s Studies Section Career Achievement Award.

The award, sponsored by Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc., is given annually to an academic librarian who has made exceptional contributions to women’s studies librarianship and recognizes long-term commitment to the profession.
Weisbard has helped advance women's studies technology resources including designing a series of self-guided tutorials for finding information on women’s issues on the Internet. She has given numerous presentations to classes on the Madison campus as well as at state and national conferences. Last May she was a State Department-sponsored visiting speaker in India, lecturing on women’s studies resources. Weisbard was nominated by librarians and women's studies faculty throughout the country.
"The Women's Studies Section is honored to give this award to Phyllis Holman Weisbard," says Dolores Fidishun, chair of the WSS award committee. "Her leadership in the area of women's studies resources in technology, particularly through the University of Wisconsin women's studies librarian's office Web site and its accompanying resources, along with her recognized contributions to the discipline of women's studies, both in and outside of libraries, made her an obvious choice."
Weisbard will accept the $1,000 cash prize prior to the Women's Studies Section Program at the American Library Association's Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., June 28.
Sue Searing, formerly of the UW-Madison Libraries, was the first recipient of this award in 2000.
