Margaret Atwood lecture canceled

Due to the recent terrorist attack in New York City, and the subsequent interruption of air traffic, the Margaret Atwood reading at the Wisconsin Union Theater, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, has been canceled. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Margaret AtwoodMADISON, Wis.--Margaret Atwood, the internationally-known author of The Handmaid’s Tale, will read from her latest novel, The Blind Assassin, at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14 in the Wisconsin Union Theater, 800 Langdon St. The event is open to the public at no charge.

The reading is cosponsored by the UW-Madison Libraries and Borders Book Stores and coincides with the release of the paperback edition of the book, first published last year.

Atwood is the author of more than 25 books, including fiction, poetry, and essays. Her most recent works include the best-selling novels Alias Grace and The Robber Bride and the collections Wilderness Tips and Good Bones and Simple Murders.

The Blind Assassin is a meditation on loss, regret and yearning, a multilayered book that introduces a novel within a novel. The London Times wrote, "Atwood’s latest fiction is among the very best."

Cover: The Blind Assassin Atwood, born in Ottawa in 1939, currently lives in Toronto. She earned degrees at the University of Toronto and Radcliffe College, and attended Harvard University. She has taught at universities in Canada, the United States, and Australia.
