MADISON, Wis. -- A new student art gallery in College Library opened April 24 in conjunction with the release of the second edition of Illumination, an annual undergraduate journal of the humanities sponsored in part by the UW-Madison Libraries and the Friends of the UW-Madison Library.
The exhibition, located in the Open Book Reading Room, features work by artists featured in the 2006 issue of Illumination, a full color journal of art, literature and essays by undergraduate students at the university. The gallery space is a permanent addition to the library.
Illumination received more than 500 submissions for the 2006 issue. Ken Frazier, director of UW-Madison Libraries, holds a position on the publication's board of advisors.
The journal, founded last year by then-UW senior Adam Blackbourn, has doubled its print circulation from its inaugural issue and is available at College Library and Memorial Library on campus as well as several other locations in Madison.
