Posted 4/28/2005

MADISON, Wis. — Historic images of the recently found ivory-billed woodpecker reported by NPR and in Science today have been digitized by the UW-Madison Libraries for viewing worldwide on the Internet.

The images dating from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries are part of a collection called the Digital Library for the Decorative Arts and Material Culture produced by the libraries in cooperation with the Chipstone Foundation in Milwaukee.

The project collects and creates electronic resources for study and research of the decorative arts, with a particular focus on Early America. Included are electronic texts and facsimiles, image databases, and Web resources.
