John Luedtke retires after nearly 35 years of service
After giving nearly 35 years of service to the UW-Madison Libraries,
John Luedtke, the director of computer services at Wendt
Library, celebrated his retirement July 11. During his tenure, Luedtke
published several articles on water resources. He contributed to the libraries'
transition to computerized literature searches in the 1970s and helped
create a microcomputer LAN system at Wendt--one of the first on campus.
He also assisted in designing the UW's first library CD-ROM network in
1990 and the first electronic reserves system in 1993. He was a contributor
to the Library Express project and the Journal Cost Benefit Report. Wendt
Library staff members Sarah Calcese (Resources), Nancy
Spitzer (Patents and Technical Reports) and Amy Kindschi
(Faculty and Student Services) organized a retirement party in honor of
Luedtke. Wendt Library director Tom Murray
and Luedtke's son Jason presented speeches and gifts on his behalf.
