College Library has a few new tricks to reveal at the 5th Annual Helen C. House Party this Thursday, September 12 from 8pm to midnight. Particularly intriguing is the new Retro Photo Booth in which participants will green-screen themselves into archival photos.  Attendees will select from one of five historic scenes and have their photo taken with props appropriate to the setting. Staff from Software Training for Students (STS) and DesignLab will then work with participants to Photoshop their image into the historic photo. Participants will leave with a print and/or digital copy of their new timeless campus keepsake.

Like many innovations, the Retro Photo Booth was created with the assistance of a dedicated team of cross-campus collaborators. Ian Benton, Steven Fife, and Kelli Hughes from College Library joined up with Rosemary Bodolay from the DesignLab, Liz Krznarich from STS, and Vicki Tobias from the UW Archives to select photos and fine-tune the image creation process. The Memorial Union is adding an air of authenticity to the operation by loaning a terrace chair, the perfect prop for an historic photo of the Memorial Union Terrace.

Also new for this year are House Party Team Trivia, carnival games presented by a variety of campus libraries, a prize booth, #partycarrel, and Madison Public Library’s animation stations.  Continuing events and partners include Johann Sebastian Joust (a digitally enabled tag game designed to be played with motion controllers) presented by Games+Learning+Society (GLS), a makerbot and soldering workshop offered by Sector 67, a “minute to win it” recycling game offered by WeConserve, and music by WSUM. As always, there will be plenty of free food from community sponsors, including Milio’s and Pizza Hut, as well as live entertainment, balloon art, face painting, arts & crafts, fortune telling, human foosball, and video games.

Join us on the 12th for the Helen C. House Party to get in on the fun!
