Basic Requirements:
CLUE works on both Mac’s and PC’s. In order to run CLUE you will need the following:
- Campus network or other high speed bandwidth such as DSL, cable modem, etc.
- Macromedia Flash player version 6.0 or later or a Flash enabled browser such as IE 5.0 or later, Netscape 6.0 or later, etc.
- Sound turned on (speakers or headphones)
- Printer
Because of the variety of configurations on home computers, even if your computer does meet these minimum requirements, you still may have trouble running CLUE. If so, go to any of the DoIT computer labs: http://www.doit.wisc.edu/computerlabs/labs.asp
If I do CLUE in an InfoLab, what should I bring?
- A set of headphones. If you don't own headphones, you can check out a set at: College Library's Computer and Media Center, Steenbock Library's Microcomputer Lab, or the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of Wendt Library.
- A debit card (a.k.a. copy card or print card) to print off your scores from the quizzes.
No Sound?
You will need to be able to hear the narration for modules 1, 3, 4 and 5, so you need to be sure you have audio capabilities: sound card and either speakers or headphones. If you are not hearing any audio, check:
- Volume levels
- Whether the "mute" option is enabled
- Headphones are plugged into the correct place.
Note that the headphone jack associated with the CD-ROM drive is specifically for audio CDs, and not for sound from other computer programs.
Quizzing (for students doing CLUE for class credit)
- Quizzing is done in Flash. Because of this, you will need to use the following browsers that support printing flash pages:
- PC: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape
- Mac: Internet Explorer Only
- In order to print the score page reliably, you need version 6 or higher of the Flash player. http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/
- You need to enter your name to take the quiz. At the end of the quiz, there will be a printable score page to turn into your instructor. The score will not be retained if you refresh the site or rewind the Flash file.
- You can retake the quiz as many times as you want until you are satisfied with your score.
- Users completing the text version of CLUE for credit should fill out the Alternative Testing Request Form that is available on the Testing and Evaluation Office's Web site at: http://wiscinfo.doit.wisc.edu/exams/. On the form where it asks you for the name of your instructor, please put in the name of Sarah McDaniel and her email: smcdaniel@library.wisc.edu. She is a Co-Director of the CLUE Project and will make arrangements for you to get the quiz through Testing Services.
