UW-Madison Online Subscription Account Forms Format

The same UW Madison IP address range is formatted below so that you can copy and paste from this into any online subscription form being filled in to set up a new subscription. While I am not sure that this exact format will be required (it will vary from publisher to publisher), this is the most common format used.

Typically on a subscription form asking for the IP address ranges, you need to enter each IP address, or partial IP address, following these rules:

  • All IP addresses contain 4 numeric segments, separated by periods.
  • A segment is either a number, an asterisk (wildcard), or a range specified by a dash (-).
  • The only characters allowed are numbers, dashes (-) and asterisks (*)
  • No segments of an IP address can be blank.
  • The allowed values for the first segment are 1-223.
  • The allowed values for segments 2, 3, 4 are 0-255.
  • The first segment cannot contain a range (-).
  • The first and second segments cannot contain a wildcard (*).
  • The third and fourth segments cannot both contain a range (-).
