Plant Description:
A perennial plant reaching from 6-18 inches in height. Sensitive fern reproduces
by underground rhizomes and seed. Sterile fronds are green in appearance and
are divided pinnately into lobed segments. Fertile fronds stand erect and are
divided twine pinnately. Segments are rolled into bead-like bodies. Seed matures
in July-August.
Remarks:
Sensitve Fern is common in cranberry beds throughout Wisconsin. It normally
begins growing along bed edges and gradually speads inward. It can be transferred
with vine cuttings to new plantings. Sensitive Fern germinates during the first
or second week in May.
