Bog Rosemary

Scientific Name:
Andromeda glaucophylla Link

Heath (Ericaceae)

Plant Description:
A low growing, perennial shrub ranging from 1-2 feet in height. The leaves grow in an alternate linear arrangement on the stem. They have a blue-green appearance above and a whitened appearance below. The leaves are long (approximately 1-1.5 inches) and have a leathery feel. Flowering occurs during the months of April-May. Flowers have a white to pinkish color and an inverted bell shape.

Remarks:
Bog Rosemary is common on many cranberry marshes throughout the state. It is a common invader of older established beds. If left unchecked, Bog Rosemary can form large dense patches which may compete with cranberry vines for sunlight and nutrients.
