Plant Description:
A woody, deciduous tree or shrub with leaves in opposite arrangement on the branches. Leaves are simple and may have 3-5 lobes and reach and length of 2-6 inches. Seed is winged and often occurs in pairs. Trees may reach a height of 70-80 feet when mature.

Remarks:
Red Maple is found commonly throughout the state of Wisconsin. It prefers swampy or poorly drained soils. It often can be found growing in woodland areas adjacent to cranberry marshes. Airborne seed is often introduced into new plantings and established beds.
