Plant Description:
A perennial grass reaching 2-3 feet in height. Stems are smooth and long. Leaves
are 6-12 inches in length and 1/4 inch wide. The plant reproduces by seed and
by underground rootstocks. Flowering occurs in June-August. Seeds resemble a
rattlesnake's tail. The plant droops over when bearing the weight of the seeds.
Remarks:
Rattlesnake Grass is common in cranberry beds throughout Wisconsin. It may be
transferred with vine cuttings to other beds. The plant is not considered a
serious problem in established beds.
