Plant Description:
Narrow-leaved cattail is a perennial plant reaching 3-6 feet in height. The
plant has long leaves connected at the base with sheaths. Leaves are dark green
in color. The plant flowers during the months of May-June. Flowers are dense
brown spikes. The staminate and pistil parts of the flower are separated by
about 2 inches of bare stem. Fruit is a tiny nutlet.
Remarks:
Narrow-leaved cattail is common to wetland areas throughout the state. It can
often be found growing along drainage ditches and reservoirs on cranberry marshes.
It occasionally does grow along bed edges and bed center ditches.
