Plant Description:
The plant is a perennial grass reaching 1-4 feet in height. It reproduces by seed and by underground rhizomes. Sheaths are often hairless and are connected to long narrow leaves. Nodes are purple to blue in color. Flowers are 3-6 inch panicles and also purplish in color. Flowering occurs from May-August.

Remarks:
Bluejoint grass can be found growing commonly along bed edges, dikes, and reservoirs. It is an occasional invader of new plantings. It isn't considered a serious weed pest in cranberries.
