Plant Description:
A common characteristics of plants in the bedstraw family is a square, weak
stem that contains leaves in a whorled arrangement frequently in groups of 4-8
leaves. Flowers are white in color and occur in clusters. Flowering occurs during
the months of June-August. Plants may lay prostrate.
Remarks:
Bedstraws are found commonly in moist woodlands and wetlands throughout the
state. They may occasionally grow along bed edges and center ditches on cranberry
marshes. Plants often become entangled in the cranberry vines. Rough bedstraw
has hairy or prickly stems and may cling to clothing. Fragrant bedstraw will
emit a sweet odor when dried.
