Library Internship Program

The General Library System's Internship Program has been in place since 1993. It is a paid program that meets two hours a week during Spring (January - May) semester. The two hours generally are scheduled as two one-hour meetings, and change yearly based on the schedule that can best accommodate the most students.

The purpose of the program is to expose the student to the many varied aspects of librarianship as a career. Students meet with library staff as a group. If a student has a particular interest that is not addressed within the group schedule, individual sessions may be scheduled. At the completion of the semester program, students are provided the opportunity to continue as internship employees working either in departments in which they have a special interest, or on projects in conjunction with a library staff member.

Application for the program is easy. You may write, phone, or email your interest in the program to the address at the bottom of this page. Participation is dictated by interest expressed by the student, abililty to accommodate the student's schedule, and recommendation by staff if applicable. Priority is given to undergraduate students.
