About Library Grants
In the 11 years since the program began, the Friends have funded nearly 150 proposals with a total of more than $200,000 awarded. The grants are primarily intended for acquisition and conservation of library materials. In the past, Friends grants have funded initiatives ranging from vacuuming books to purchasing children's books for interlibrary loan. Some grants have been used for more technical purposes, such as purchasing ultraviolet shields for fluorescent lights.
In celebration of the acquisition of the six millionth book by the UW-Madison Library, the Friends purchased Irises by Leonard Baskin.
The annual grant application deadline is May 1.

Each year, the Friends of the
UW–Madison Library award grants
to UW–Madison campus libraries and
library units. These grant projects are
funded on the basis of competitive
scholarly proposals, which are evaluated
by a committee of five board members
and voted on by the full board of
directors. In 2007 the board of directors
approved 26 grant proposals. The General Library System also contributed funding toward the purchase of the preservation monitoring equipment for several library units.
