Peter D. Thomas of the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry.

Thomas was picked up by the 15th Regiment during its campaigns. He was an escaped slave. He served Lt. Charles B. Nelson of Company G at Chickamauga and other battles, then joined the 18th U. S. Colored Infantry. Later he followed Wisconsin troops back to Beloit and attended school there. In time he made his home in Racine and was elected Racine county coroner.
