UW-Madison Ph.D. dissertations are available for check out. UW-Madison master's theses are not available for check out; they may be viewed in a library.

To view abstracts and the first 24 pages of most dissertations published since 1997, and the full text of UW-Madison dissertations published since 1997, use ProQuest Digital Dissertations.

To view the full text of dissertations from CIC institutions (Big Ten plus the University of Chicago), use Current Research@CIC.

To borrow a Ph.D. dissertation or master's thesis (no charge) from another university submit a request in WorldCat or Library Express.

To purchase a Ph.D. dissertation

There are two options for purchasing a dissertation:

  • Purchase it directly from Dissertation Express or by calling 1-800-521-3042.
  • Have Memorial Library ILL Office order it for you at a discounted price.

Dissertations ordered are available in unbound format only and delivery is usually within 4-5 working days of placing your order (titles prior to 1980 may take a few extra days). The ILL Office will notify you by e-mail when it has arrived and you can pay at the time of pickup in the Interlibrary Loan Office (Memorial Library, Second Floor, Room 231).

Others

To borrow or photocopy a UW-Madison Ph.D. dissertation or master's thesis, refer your local library's interlibrary loan staff to UW-Madison General Library System Interlibrary Loan Lending and Photocopying. Master's theses are not available for loan and are available only as photocopies.

To purchase, order directly from Dissertation Express or by calling 1-800-521-3042. UW-Madison dissertations are only available for purchase from 1955 to present. UW-Madison master's theses are not usually available through Dissertation Express.
