Current UW-Madison Alumni Association paid members have some additional library privileges

Individuals must become a member of Friends of the Library to borrow materials. The annual fee amount varies. Friends have the following library privileges:

Obtaining a card
- Applications may be made at the Card Application Desk located in the lobby of Memorial Library.
- Proof of affiliation from the home institution and photo ID (with current address information) are required.
- Faculty sponsored by a UW-Madison department must also provide a letter of sponsorship from the UW-Madison department. The letter must be written on department stationery, state that the department takes responsibility for all overdue/lost book charges, include dates of authorization, and be signed by the chair.
- All overdue charges and lost book fines must be paid before the card will be issued or renewed.
- All General Library System cards are valid through June 30th of the current fiscal year. Card renewals begin on June 1st each year.
Annual Fee Card Holders
Includes Wisconsin residents (not covered elsewhere)

Obtaining a card
- Applications may be made at the Card Application Desk located in the lobby of Memorial Library.
- Annual fee amount: Age 62 or under - $40.00; Over age 62 - $20.00
- Proof of residency is required. Two forms of identification with address information must be provided. One must have a current photo.
- All overdue charges and lost book fines must be paid before the card will be issued or renewed.
- All General Library System cards are valid through June 30th of the current fiscal year. Card renewals begin on June 1st each year.
Renewing a card
- Patrons wishing to renew their General Library System library card must do so in person at the Card Application Window of Memorial Library.
- The requirements for renewing the card are the same as those in place when the card was initially issued.
- Any library charges on the account must be satisfied before library cards may be renewed.
